Alsóörs - so inviting that you will always want to come again!
A splendid flowery spring, a bright, sunshiny summer, a golden autumn and a healthy winter. Gentle slopes planted with vines, fruit-gardens and hills with a view on the lake.
That's the Balaton Riviera on the Northern shore of the marvellous lake. A beautiful landscape of Pannonian cheerfulness and a historical atmosphere offering a developed spa culture today.
The gem of this portion of the shore is Alsóörs, an old settlement at the foot of Somlyó Hill, with expansive bathing sites today - a welcoming resort with sandy lidos, silky water and convenient facilities.
The old farm houses built of red stone in the centre of the ancient village provide an enchanting scenery. The numerous wine-shops and inviting cellars situated in the vineyards are built on foundations from the Roman age.
Excellent wines were produced here as early as the Middle Ages. And that's when the inhabitants started quarrying and dressing the characteristic red Permian sandstone at the outskirts of the village and fishing in the water of Lake Balaton with its many species.
The inhabitants honour the memories of its past: of the glory of the Alsóörs heroes of the 1848 war of independence and the village's famous poet Sándor Endrődi (1850-1920).
And they hold in high respect the 13th century church showing Gothic and Baroque stylistic marks as well as the Gothic mansion from the Middle Ages, commonly known as Török House.
In the summer, a variety of events and cultural programmes, music events, art exhibitions, a rowing regatta on Lake Balaton, folk dances and disco nights provide entertainment. A number of sports events are organised in the sports arena as well as outdoors. The season closes with the large-scale summer festival.
Board and lodging for guests are provided at camping sites, hotels, guest-houses, private accommodations and restaurants offering Hungarian cuisine and the traditional Hungarian hospitality. The vicinity of Alsóörs is a tourist paradise providing for delightful recreation.
